Young people in Hong Kong developing a science or invention project have an open registration window to consider. The Hong Kong regional final of the International Science Competition is accepting online registrations until 11:59pm on 13 October 2026.

These are potential next stages for selected projects, not benefits received by every registrant. A regional-final entry should be described accurately as an application to compete. International participation depends on the selection process and the rules applying to the relevant delegation.
Build the entry around evidence
A strong project starts with a question that can be tested. Explain the problem, the method used, the observations or data collected, and what the results do and do not establish. If the project is an invention, show the need it addresses, how the prototype works and what testing has been completed.
Keep a record of sources, measurements and changes made during development. A judge should be able to distinguish the team’s original work from background research, commercially available components or assistance provided by teachers and mentors. Clear attribution strengthens the explanation rather than diminishing the project.
A polished display cannot compensate for a claim that the evidence does not support. If a sample is small or a prototype has only been tested in limited conditions, say so and explain the next test that would be useful.
Check the exact entry rules
The two public listings reviewed for this article provide the registration period, organiser and competition purpose. They do not, by themselves, establish every age, team-size, category or document rule that may apply to a particular entrant. Confirm who is eligible to submit, whether a project is individual or team-based, what language and file formats are accepted, and whether school endorsement or other supporting material is required. Do not infer an unpublished rule from a previous edition or another competition.
Use the remaining time well
Before the deadline, ask someone unfamiliar with the project to read the summary. If they cannot identify the question, method and main result, simplify the explanation. Check that photographs, charts and labels are legible and that any people shown have been handled in accordance with the relevant consent requirements.
Complete the online registration early enough to resolve missing fields or upload problems. Retain the final submitted version and any acknowledgement. Create a submission checklist that separates the scientific content from the administrative fields. The scientific side should include the question, method, evidence, limitations and references. The administrative side should cover the entrant details, requested declarations and each required file. This reduces the risk of improving the project explanation while overlooking a mandatory field in the online form.
